Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching and you’re probably thinking about what flowers to bring, which restaurant to make reservations at, or what clothes to pick as your first date. No pressure, but how you’re dressed is one of the first things your date will notice. So pay attention to this fail-proof guide which will help you to look sharp and ready for your first date:
The first rule is to always wear something “fresh” - don’t wear the same pants as you’ve worn all week. Also remember to wear something that fits you well. I can’t stress this enough: the label or the trend doesn’t matter as much as the state of the clothes you’re in - you will look more put together and feel more confident in clothes that fit you well. Remember, the clothes represents who you are, and you want to make sure to make a good impression on your first date.
Don’t forget this simple (but crucial) rule; always show up five minutes early and assume she'll be five minutes late.
The Sunday Brunch, Lunch or Dinner:
No matter if you’re heading for a casual lunch, a low-key dinner or a brunch; this looks work for all. Pair chinos with a tucked-in business wear shirt, or polo, t-shirt, and your outfit is ready.

From Work to Date:
Though this may seem as a tricky one, as you might not want to wear the same style to work as you would for a date, don’t worry - it’s actually not that tricky at all. Of course, it depends on your line of work, but there are easy ways to “dress up” or “dress down” a work outfit. Let’s take the “Wall Street Corporate” as an example: with this outfit you can loosen up your tie (or remove it completely), take off your suit jacket, and maybe undo the first few buttons of your shirt. An alternative is to bring an alternative blazer to change into after work, before the date. We have plenty of blazers for you to choose from here; or customize your own one here.
The Luxurious Date:
This one is more tricky as your outfit will depend on just how luxurious the date is. For example, if you’re taking your date to the opera, the best style is to wear a well-fitted, tailored suit. In order to not look like a Wall Street Corporate, avoid the average black suit and go for a more colorful, less corporate, fabric choice. Customize yours with Hockerty!
Good luck and have fun!
