Jeans are a garment that almost everyone on the planet wears a few times a week, regardless of gender or age. Unfortunately, they are considered to be one of the least sustainable clothing pieces based on industry production data. But there is also another way of doing things: reducing the harmful impact on our Mother Earth and producing sustainable jeans. Hockerty cares about sustainability and keeping our planet green for the next generations and so we follow these concepts to create sustainable jeans for you. Pair your eco-friendly jeans with stylish dressing shoes for men to complete your sustainable yet sophisticated look.
Made to order - Zero Waste
The biggest harm fast fashion causes is the creation of huge landfills filled with unsold, never worn clothing. This concept generates more than 90 million tons of waste every year! Can you even imagine this amount? Successively, this clothing gets burned or buried somewhere on this planet. Hockerty produces everything made to order; which means that we only produce as many jeans as people really order. No extra stock, no waste, easy as it is.
The concept of made to order also means zero waste when producing the garments, in this case - jeans. All our materials are processed and used to create a garment and there are very few leftovers that could not be used for different products.
Saving water on fabric production
Making of the cotton fabric needed for your jeans may consume a lot of water and energy. On average, up to 6,800 liters of water are needed to make two meters of denim. At Hockerty, we want to work on the sustainability starting from the raw materials our jeans are made of. That’s why we get our denim fabrics from suppliers that vowed to protect the environment and committed to quality innovation and following clean, traceable and processes. As a result, our fabrics are more sustainable, but remain faithful to the concept of true denim.
Ecological washing
One of the least ecological aspects about jeans production is the industrial washing. This is a phase in which jeans are washed to fade from dark blue color to modern lighter blue shades. The washing process uses hazardous chemicals and a lot of water, generally up to 70 liters per one pair of jeans.
Another difference we producers can make is choosing what chemicals will be used in jeans production. At Hockerty, we have developed a long-term partnership with the Garmon Lab. Garmon is one of the first companies of the jeans industry that decided to certify the washing products, providing guarantee of superior ecological performance. Only the chemicals that receive this certification are products that can be considered safe for customers and for the planet. This helps our planet and makes your pair of jeans sustainable; keeping you safe from harmful chemicals (such as Potassium Permanganate, which is one of the most dangerous substances) that could later get on your skin. Moreover, this also means that your jeans will need less washing once you have them.
Durability
Our sustainable jeans are produced from high quality materials and will last much longer than any fast fashion pair. We ensure to follow the vision of ‘slow fashion’ with an idea that buying clothes that last longer reduces the amount of clothing used and thrown out to waste. Our jeans are also made to measure, so they have a high chance of becoming your new favorite pair of jeans due to their comfort and you will get a lot of wear out of them.
Optimal packaging and shipping
At Hockerty, we always do our best to offer packaging and shipping solutions that minimize our impact on the environment. Firstly, we mostly use either recyclable, compostable or reusable materials, always having the same goal in mind: sustainability. Secondly, we optimize the size of each of our packages to save carbon emissions, so you don’t receive a small item in a huge box full of air.
